I have dedicated myself to furthering my knowledge about Kai art through self-study. Since holding my debut exhibition in 1986,Ihave held over 30 personal exhibitions of my works at galleries in Japan. Some 800 years ago,Kai-awase,a shell-matching game, was played by Japan's aristocrats. The game was played by placing 360 pairs of shells in two large hexagonal or octagonal buckets called “kai oke”. Each pair of shells had the same picture painted on the inside. Half of these pairs were placed in a circle facing upward. The object of the game was to turn upward the downward-facingshells and find their matching partner among the upward-facing shell halves. Unfortunately, this game has become extinct. There are numerous surviving old works of this now-extinct art,but few living artists. I aim to revive this world of art called Kai-art that is now more like an illusion, through my ongoing studies and own art style. To view works, please click“art”. Please enjoy your visit.
